IPOH: Police have arrested two people who are believed to be the parents of four siblings who were found abandoned at the Perak Tengah Administrative Complex, in Kampung Gajah, last Thursday.

Perak Tengah police chief Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said the two were arrested separately following investigations into the incident after police received a report from Kampung Gajah Social Welfare Department staff on Nov 23.

"Police arrested the man on Monday and seized a blue Modenas Kriss motorcycle and the clothes the man used during the incident.

"A woman was arrested yesterday and her mobile phone was seized. Both of them have been detained at the Perak Tengah police headquarters, to assist further investigations," he said in a statement.

Hafezul Helmi said police opened an investigation paper under Section 33(a) of the Child Act 2001, as the siblings were left without proper supervision.

He added that the investigation into the incident was still ongoing, and the public was advised not to spread any information or news that is not authentic and which could upset the local community.

On Friday, Hafezul Helmi was reported as saying that four siblings, including a 10-month-old baby, were believed to have been abandoned in front of a security post at the complex.

Information on the incident, he had said, was received from a district Welfare Department officer, at 5.39pm.

He had the children — two boys aged 11 and 3, a 10-month-old baby boy and a 6-year-old girl — were found about 10.50am.

He had said the siblings were believed to have been abandoned by an unknown woman, who was driving a Toyota car. — Bernama
