MUAR: Police arrested a couple who drove recklessly against traffic along Jalan Salleh near here and ignored instructions to stop, on Saturday (Nov 11).

The couple, a 24-year-old man and his female companion, 27, crashed into two vehicles in their unsuccessful bid to flee while driving against the flow of traffic at 2.30am.

Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the suspects were first spotted by policemen on regular crime prevention patrol near a public market.

"Their behaviour raised suspicion, prompting the policemen to instruct them to stop. However, the man who was behind the wheel accelerated, driving against the flow of traffic and crashed into two cars," he said.

Upon inspection, police found methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Both of them had previous drugs-related offences, and also tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both were also charged at the Muar magistrate's court yesterday.

The 24-year-old man was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 186 of the Penal Code, and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the woman was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
