KOTA BARU: Four police officers were arrested on suspicion of distributing ketum juice and tobacco leaves in the lock-up of the Kota Baru court in Tunjung yesterday.

According to sources, the four members of the Kota Baru district police escort unit were apprehended around 8.30am by a team from the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).

The sources said the JIPS team also seized four bottles of ketum juice and some tobacco leaves from them.

"The JIPS team went to the lock-up and found the juice at the back of a sofa in the resting room of the lock-up.

"The tobacco leaves were found inside a sling bag belonging to one of them.

"They then detained the four, aged between 25 to 33," said the sources.

Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun when contacted confirmed their arrests.

He said the four would be suspended from work soon.

"Following this case, l have ordered their supervisors to be accountable for what had happened.

"This is in the line with the Inspector General of Police's standing order no 191 (Total Enforcement) and the Home Ministry's chief secretary instruction on

Regulation 3C, Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.

"All district police chiefs are also to find the best method in lock-up supervision to prevent a repeat incident," he added.
