TANAH MERAH: Two men who were caught in possession of 6,800kgs of subsidised 1kg cooking oil in polybags yesterday have been remanded for seven days beginning today.

The remand order which ended on Oct 18, was obtained at the Magistrate court here this afternoon.

Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in its Facebook post stated that the remand order was obtained before magistrate Nik Habri Muhamad.

The posting stated that the remand order was taken to enable the ministry to continue carrying out its investigation under the Control Supplies Act 1961.

It was reported that a lorry driver and his attendant were arrested for possessing the subsidised cooking oil in polybags yesterday.

The two were travelling from Tanah Merah to Rantau Panjang when they were nabbed by members of the General Operations Force (GOF) Seventh Battalion.

They were passing a roadblock at Lalang Pepuyu at about 5.30pm before being arrested for possession of the cooking oil.

The GOF members also seized the lorry valued at more than RM60,000.

The cooking oil is believed to be for smuggling into Thailand via one of the illegal jetties located along the border.
