KUANTAN: A 48-year-old lorry driver was detained for suspected misappropriation of 900 litres of subsidised diesel at a petrol station in Jalan Beserah, here, yesterday.

The man was nabbed just as he was filling up the fuel into his three-tonne lorry about 12.30pm.

Pahang Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry director Datuk Mark Ujin said: "Upon inspection, the enforcement team found that the fuel tank was connected by a hose to a metal storage tank at the back of the lorry.

"A pump was installed near the tank to channel diesel from the fuel tank into the modified tank.

"Checks revealed that the modified tank contained about 900 litres of fuel. We have seized the lorry and detained the driver for further investigations," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Rule 18(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Meanwhile, Mark said the enforcement team would conduct checks at petrol stations across the state to curb syndicates from abusing subsidised diesel.

He urged patrol station operators and members of the public with any information or see any suspicious activities at petrol pumps to inform the ministry.

The arrest was the second this month after enforcement team on Aug 2 nabbed two men filling diesel from a petrol station in Indera Mahkota into eight modified tanks on their lorry. The modified compartment comprised eight square tanks with a storage capacity of 1,000 litres each.
