LABUAN: The Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized a package of drugs, suspected to be syabu, from a fibreglass boat in Menumbok here last night.

The drugs, estimated to be 900g and worth RM50,000, were found in a Chinese tea package.

Labuan maritime zone director Captain Nudin Jusoh said the boat carrying the drugs was detected by a patrolling MMEA vessel about 12.30am.

He said the operations team moved in to inspect the boat as its pilot was deemed to be acting suspiciously.

"However, as soon as it was approached, the boat sped towards Tanjung Kelias.

"The pilot escaped, leaving the boat on the seashore," he said today.

Nudin said the team then found the package of drugs hidden in the boat.

"The operations team brought the drugs and boat to the Labuan Maritime Jetty here for further investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952."
