KUALA LUMPUR: A man was woken up from sleep after midnight by three e-hailing drivers, separately, for ride orders he never made.
The man who wanted to remain anonymous said he had already lodged a police report and was now trying to identify the person who made the e-hailing bookings to his house.
In an effort to find out what happened, the victim reached out to Parti Utama Rakyat chairman Datuk Mohd Daud Leong.
Mohd Daud told a press conference in Semenyih today that he would contact the e-hailing company to ensure the police investigation into the matter could be sped up.
According to the police report, the victim was first woken up at 1.57am by a man who claimed he was an e-hailing driver who informed that he had accepted a booking to pick the victim up from his house.
"Since it was during the wee hours of the night, coupled with shock, the victim said he couldn't remember the exact name of the destination for the e-hailing booking mentioned by the drivers. All he remembered was that it was the name of some restaurant," Mohd Daud told the New Straits Times.
After the victim clarified that he never made any bookings, the first driver apologised for bothering him late at night and left.
However, the same thing happened two more times at 2.23am and 2.48am, leaving the victim and his entire family in fear.
Mohd Daud said he was hoping to engage with the e-hailing company, the police, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to resolve the matter soon.
"I'm sure this is not the first time such a thing has happened. Other people must have experienced this too and it is something that should be highlighted for everyone's safety.
"Imagine waking up at 2am to someone who said they received bookings to bring you to some destination. The victim and his family are worried for their safety, especially since he has children and an elderly mother.
"Was this a prank or something serious? We must trace the person who placed the three bookings... We can't let troublemakers use a service that we rely on for practical jokes or something even more concerning," he said.
At press time, the e-hailing company has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
