ALOR STAR: The Kedah Health Department has launched a joint investigation with the police to investigate a doctor for selling fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates.

State Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman said the case was under investigation by the authorities.

"Yes, we have detected a case involving a doctor suspected of selling fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates in Kedah.

"We do not how many of the fake certificates have been sold but for now I would say it was not widespread," he told reporters after the state Executive Council meeting at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

He did not rule out the possibility that the case in Kedah was connected with earlier cases reported in other states including in Terengganu.

"Probably there could be some connections but let the Health Department and the police carry out their investigations first," he said, declining to elaborate as investigations were underway.

He also declined to comment when pressed on whether the case in Kedah was involving a doctor from a government or private hospital.

Yesterday, it was reported that cases on the sale of fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates were so far recorded by the police in four states, quoting Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Razarudin Husain.

He was reported as saying the states were Selangor, Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan.

However, Razarudin said the activities were still under control as police would continue monitoring the situation from time to time.
