KOTA BARU: A private clinic doctor was detained for allegedly selling fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates to several people recently.

The doctor, who is in his 60s, was detained during a joint operation between the police and the Health Department on Monday.

On Sunday, the authorities nabbed three people including a woman who had obtained fake vaccination certificates from the doctor.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat in a statement today confirmed the arrests of the four.

He said the arrests were made following a report on the issuance of fake vaccination certificates was lodged at the Kota Baru police headquarters on Sunday.

"The report stated that the state Health Department had received four complaints about the selling of fake vaccination cards between Jan 1 and Jan 11.

"These certificates are alleged to have been issued by a private clinic in Kota Baru and sold at RM180 each.

"Police together with the Health officers raided the said premises on two separate occasions to arrest the four, including three clients," he added.

Shafien said police also seized several vaccination certificates and other related documents from the premises.

It was reported today that cases on the selling of fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates were so far recorded by the police in four states.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Razarudin Husain said the states were Selangor, Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan.

However, he said the activities were still under control as police would continue monitoring the situation from time to time.
