IPOH: Perak police have denied allegations that two policemen did nothing to resolve a fight which resulted in the death of a man at Flat Ashby Road, Sungai Senam, yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said acting on a tip-off, policemen from Sungai Senam rushed to the scene and successfully resolved the fight.

He said police arrested three men at the scene and they had taken them to the Sungai Senam police station for further action.

"District police have noticed comments on a photo of the scene showing the actions of police officers resolving the fight that took place in Jalan Ashby yesterday.

"However, the picture which went viral on a social media platform showed that as if the police did nothing to resolve the fight," he said in a statement today.

Yahaya said it was indeed irresponsible of the social media user to give negative statements without knowing the facts.

"As such, a police report was lodged by the policeman (who was seen in the photo). We are still investigating and locating those individuals who took the picture," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 505(B) of the Penal Code for making a statement with intent to cause fear or public alarm and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or network service.

Yahaya said police always uphold the trust placed in them in enforcing the law fairly and professionally, especially in handling such emergency situations which involve the safety of the people.

"For this case, police obtained a seven-day remand against the three men until Dec 2 to facilitate investigations.

"We hope people will not spread fake information and speculate on the case which could disturb the investigation."

Yahaya said those who witnessed the incident are urged to go to the district police headquarters or contact the investigation officer, Assistant Superintendent Azlina Rais Ahmad, at 013-6282176.

It was reported yesterday that police have arrested three men including a father and son, suspected to be involved in the murder of a 29-year-old man.

The mentally-unstable victim, Muhammad Noor Faqih Mohamed Ariffin, died from strangulation at the scene in the 7am incident.

Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said it was claimed the victim had stolen a portable speaker belonging to one of the suspects.
