SUNGAI PETANI: Police will summon a businessman for questioning over a digital poster for an event that carried the photo of Kedah police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat who has nothing to do with the event.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said this follows the circulation of the digital poster uploaded on the businessman's Instagram account yesterday to welcome his arrival in Sungai Petani.

"Checks showed that the event does not exist and the Kedah police chief has nothing to do with the programme.

"We will summon the individual soon to have his statement recorded," he said in a statement today.

Adzli said the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The digital poster with the heading 'Selamat Datang' (Welcome) was uploaded on the businessman's Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Besides his photo, the digital poster carried photos of three other people including the Kedah police chief.

Checks on his social media showed that the man had uploaded two other postings on his social media accounts on the programme.

He previously made headlines when pictures of him posing with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng were widely circulated in 2018.
