KOTA KINABALU: A civil servant claimed trial at the magistrate's court here today to 10 counts of cheating involving RM55,000 last year.

Noredayati Amat Sah, 32, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles.

The 10 charges stated that Noredayati cheated Hasmadi Jamawi by inducing him into believing that she (Noredayati) could arrange supply services at the Sabah Department of Veterinary Services. However, the service did not exist.

Noredayati, who works as an operations assistant at the department, allegedly induced the man to bank in RM9,000, RM1,000, RM9,000, RM3,000, RM4,500, RM9,000, RM3,000, RM10,000, RM1,000 and RM5,500 into her CIMB account between Nov 25, 2020, and Dec 21, 2020.

The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years and whipping and fine, upon conviction.

Lovely fixed Nov 29 and Dec 2 for pre-trial case management and allowed bail of RM4,000 with two local sureties.

Earlier, National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, who represented Noredayati for bail application, asked for a lower bail amount taking into consideration that the accused has no flight risk.

Lim said the accused has five children and the youngest was still breastfeeding.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugenie Meredith Gilbert prosecuted.
