KOTA KINABALU: A 49-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court here today with four counts of raping a babysitter who was a minor.

The labourer pleaded not guilty before judge Abu Bakar Manat to all charges under Section 376 (2) (d) of the Penal Code.

The offence carries imprisonment of between 10 and 30 years and whipping upon conviction.

The man had allegedly raped the girl, who was 14 years and five months, at a house in Penampang on May 8, in July, end of July, and in August this year.

No bail was offered to the accused and he will be further detained pending the disposal of the case.

The court fixed Nov 22 and 23, for pre-trial case management.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, a man claimed to causing grievous hurt to his neighbour using a 33-cm long knife.

William Tuldac Vejano was accused of committing the offence against Joiwen Emik on Oct 17, at 4.40pm in front of a house in Jalan Kionsom Inanam.

The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code provides imprisonment of up to 20 years as well as a fine or whipping.

William will be further detained as no bail was offered to him. The court fixed Nov 23, for pre-trial case management.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan prosecuted both cases.
