PASIR MAS: Police detained a 49-year-old man in possession of 73 cartons of smuggled cigarettes worth almost RM190,000 here last night.

Pasir Mas police chief Assistant Commissioner Nasaruddin Md Nasir said the suspect was arrested in a raid at a house in Kampung Dangar.

He said a police team went to the house following tip-offs.

"They detained the suspect who is a local," he said in a statement.

Nasaruddin said initial investigation showed that the suspect with seven previous criminal records, was on his way to send the cigarettes to suppliers.

"We also believe the items were brought into Kelantan from a neighbouring country for local distribution," he added.
