JOHOR BARU: Two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) enforcement officers were charged at the Sessions Court here with cheating an individual of RM40,000.

Amir Isham Shahak and Wan Kamarul Za'im Wan Mansor were accused of deceiving an individual to give them RM40,000 on the premise that they help him resolve an ongoing MACC case.

They were accused of committing the offence at a restaurant in Simpang Renggam on October 14 this year at 7.57pm.

They were charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code which is read together with Section 34 of the same Act.

Wan Kamarul Za'im, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charge while Amir Izham pleaded guilty.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaili Sapun offered bail of RM35,000 with one surety and for the accused to surrender their passports to the court.

Amir Izham was represented by counsel Mohd Salleh Togimin while Wan Kamarul Za'im was represented by counsel Azlan Shah Mohd Allias.

Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Iamail then set bail at RM7,000 with one surety each and ordered them to surrender their passports to the court.

The judge then set November 24 for mention of the case.
