IPOH: Two businessmen were charged at the Sessions Court here today with giving false details when renewing their identity cards.

The duo had stated that their full address was at Istana Kinta, six years ago.

Istana Kinta is an unofficial residence of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

Mohamad Halmi Waramejini, 55 and Affendy Abdul Aziz, 49 pleaded not guilty when the charge was separately read to them before judge, Norita Mohd Ardani.

According to the charge sheet, the duo had given false information when providing details in their identification cards by stating that their full address was at Kediaman Diraja Istana Kinta here.

The offence was committed at the National Registration Department counter in Urban Transformation Centre (UTC), Pasar Besar Ipoh, Jalan Dato' Onn Jaafar on Oct 26, 2015.

They were charged under Sub-Regulation 25(1)(b) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 and upon conviction could be fined a maximum RM20,000 or jailed up to three years, or both.

Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Sally Chay Mei Ling and the accused was represented by lawyer Mohamad Salihen Mastor.

Chay offered the accused bail of RM10,000 each with one surety.

She described the offence committed by the duo as serious as they did not have family members nor permanent addresses in Perak.

In mitigation, Mohamad Salihen requested the court to set a minimum bail as his clients did not have fixed incomes and needed to support their families.

Mohamad Halmi, a company director and also a volunteer at a non-governmental organisation is the only breadwinner, while Affendy who sells health products has 10 children.

Norita set bail at RM6,000 each and ordered Mohamad Halmi and Affendy to report themselves at the Kempas and Subang Jaya Police Stations, respectively every month.

The court also fixed Dec 8 for mention.

It was reported on July 12 that Mohamad Halmi pleaded not guilty at the Johor Sessions Court to charges of displaying an emblem of a Perak state title on a vehicle without permission in May.

According to the charge, the accused allegedly displayed an emblem of the 'Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak-Dato Seri (S.P.M.P.)' title on a Proton X70 without written permission from the Sultan of Perak.
