MELAKA: An elderly woman was found dead in her house in Bukit Punggur in Alai, here.

Rohana Ramli, 74, was found unconscious in the bathroom of her home by firefighters about 8.55am this morning.

Her niece, Norazlina Md Daut, 45, said the last time she spoke to her aunt was at 11am yesterday.

However, she said, calls to her had been going unanswered since yesterday evening.

Norazlina said Rohana was living alone as her husband, who tested positive for Covid-19, was being treated in Melaka Hospital, while her Covid-positive son was warded in the intensive care unit in the same hospital.

"As I was worried that Mak Ngah (Rohana) did not pick up my calls, from yesterday evening, I immediately called the emergency line this morning to ask for help to check on her condition.

"I did not expect this to happen (and) now her eldest son who is in Selangor has been informed of his mother's death," she said.

Norazlina said apart from Rohana's husband and youngest son, her in-law and two grandchildren also tested positive and were being quarantined at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Ayer Keroh.

Meanwhile, Melaka Fire and Rescue Department operations head Zulhairani Ramli said the department received an emergency call at 8.45am and despatched five firemen from the Padang Temu Fire and Rescue Station.

"The firemen had to break down the locked door, and found the victim unconscious. The medical officer who was present then performed an examination before confirming that the victim had died," he added.
