IPOH: A developer with a 'Datuk' title was charged with cheating an individual of RM400,000 at the magistrate's court, here, today.

Datuk Chin Yoon Seong, 62, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out to him before magistrate Mohammad 'Afifi Mohammad Deen.

According to the charge sheet, Chin was accused of cheating Lee Wan How, 36, by deceiving him through the sale of company shares and inducing him to hand over property, namely cash amounting to RM400,000.

The offence was committed at Times Square Ipoh, Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah here between Jan 6 and Jan 12, 2017.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating which carries a maximum imprisonment of 10 years, whipping and can be fined upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Afiqah Izzati Mazlan suggested bail of RM10,000.

However, the accused who was represented by lawyer, Raam Kumar pleaded for a RM2,000 bail.

Mohammad 'Afifi set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed August 11 for mention.
