RANAU: Two men have been arrested for selling ketum juice by the roadside at Kampung Dumpiring in Kundasang, here, recently.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Sammy Newton said policemen on Movement Control Order (MCO) patrol duty noticed the duo, aged 21 and 31, selling the juice in the open at 5.40pm.

"They then seized two bottles containing 3.0 litres of liquid believed ketum juice. So far, we know where they got their supplies from but investigation is still ongoing," he said when contacted, today.

Sammy added that when asked, the duo said they were aware that their action was against the law.

"They are selling it at RM30 per bottle." he said.

The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a four-year imprisonment or a fine of not more than RM10,000 or both, if convicted.

"Apart from that, the duo is also being investigated for violating MCO under Rules 11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the local Infected Areas) Regulations 2020," he said.

He added that the district police have detained 20 individuals for flouting MCO since March 18.
