SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here allowed the application to dismiss two charges related to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) against Seremban Jaya assemblyman P Gunasekaran.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aslina Ahad presented the application before Judge Madihah Harullah.

Gunasekaran was alleged to have LTTE-related items at 2844, Jalan SJ 3/6B, Taman Seremban Jaya, and 139, Kampung Baru Rahang, between 9.58am and 11.50am on Oct 10.

If convicted, he could be jailed up to seven years and fine.

Gunasekaran was not present in court today and he was represented by four lawyers led by Jelutong MP RSN Rayer.

On Oct 29, Gunasekaran, who is also deputy chairman of Negeri Sembilan DAP, was charged at the Melaka Sessions Court with supporting the LTTE group, and was slapped with an additional charge at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Oct 31.

Meanwhile, Rayer thanked the prosecution for the move. He said they were informed after the charges were filed that the prosecutors had decided to withdraw the two charges.

“There was no reason given (by the prosecution). We also hope that the prosecution would reconsider to withdraw related charges at other courts,” he said.
