SINGAPORE: Officers of the island republic’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) caught a Malaysia-registered lorry with 3,000 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Saturday.
The officers’ suspicions were aroused when they noticed anomalies in the scanned images of the lorry’s consignment, which were declared as “sealant and multi-purpose acetic silicone”, according to ICA in its latest Facebook update today.
The authority said the case involving a 41-year-old Malaysian man was referred to Singapore Customs for investigation.
“Our borders are our first line of defence in safeguarding Singapore’s security,” it said, adding that it would continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles to prevent the smuggling of undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contraband. - Bernama
