KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of media personnel gathered in the vicinity of the Kuala Lumpur courthouse as early as 10am awaiting the first day of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's trial.

Najib faces seven charges relating to criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd’s funds.

The trial dubbed as the "SRC International trial", is set to begin at 2pm, before High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

At 12.30pm, media representatives from local and foreign agencies swarmed the registration counter near the court complex's main entrance prior to Najib’s arrival in court.

This led to dissatisfaction among reporters as there were some who jumped the queue as they register for passes to enter the live video feed room to view the proceedings.

A hundred passes were issued for local and foreign media to access the courtroom and video-link room.

Court officials have also added more passes for journalists to enter the video-link room since the number of journalists covering the trial is more than they expected.

Security is tight, with the police out in full force and stationed around the complex to monitor the situation throughout the proceedings.

On July 4 last year, the 66-year old Pekan Member of Parliament was charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one charge of abusing his position over SRC International funds.

On Aug 8 last year, he was charged with three counts of money laundering involving the same amount of money.
