PUTRAJAYA: Two female company managers were remanded today to assist in an investigation into embezzlement worth RM15 million.

It was learnt that millions of ringgit were abused for projects involving a ministry since 2017.

Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim ordered the two females to be remanded for six days, until Jan 30.

It is believed that the two women masterminded the embezzlement.

According to sources, the two managers, aged 41 and 44, were arrested by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at about 8pm at its headquarters here after having their statements recorded.

The two women were believed to have worked together with another main suspect to obtain projects at the ministry and give them to selected companies, which amounted to RM15 million since 2017.

The sources also said that the main suspect was believed to have received between 20 and 30 per cent of funds from each project.

The MACC is also currently looking for several other individuals and wholesale companies in the country, believed to be involved in this syndicate.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operation) Datuk Seri Azam Baki when contacted confirmed the arrests and that investigations would be carried out under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
