KANGAR: Investigations into allegations that Shahidan had insulted Raja Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, have been completed, said Kangar district police chief, Supt Wari Kiew.

“The investigation papers on allegations that the Perlis Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim had insulted Raja Perlis would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) office soon for further action.

“This includes whether or not to proceed with a prosecution.

“The case was investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service,” he said when contacted.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine a year-imprisonment.

NSTP had on May 25 reported that Kuala Perlis assemblyman, Nor Azam Karap, lodged a police report against Shahidan over his remarks questioning the Malay Ruler over the appoinment of the state menteri besar.

Azam had asked for an immediate probe as “no one had ever challenged a decision made by Raja Perlis through the media”.

Shahidan’s media statement questioning the credibility of the word ‘murka’ (when a Ruler expresses unhappiness over an issue) had caused uproar, prompting differents groups to also lodge police reports.
