KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has set July 12 to hear an application by Pakatan Harapan (PH) to compel the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to answer its application for registration.
The case will be heard before judge Datuk Azizah Nawawi, according to counsel Michelle Ng.
On Feb 21, PH filed the application through legal firm Gobind Singh Dep & Co, naming Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Parti Amanah Negara deputy secretary-general Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh as applicants and RoS as the sole respondent.
They also applied for a declaration that the RoS’s refusal to register the then opposition coalition as going against the agency’s statutory duty.
Alternatively, the applicants sought a declaration that the RoS’s refusal was unreasonable and malicious in nature.
PH also sought a declaration that the respondent’s failure to reply to a letter from them dated Feb 6 enquiring about the status of its registration had also gone against its statutory duty.
They are also seeking an order to compel RoS to register PH as a registered body under the Societies Act 1966.
