GEORGE TOWN: The Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) has seized RM5.6 million worth of syabu in six separate raids in Penang and Kedah on Wednesday.

Six syndicate members were also arrested in the raids.

Federal police Narcotics Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh said the drugs, weighing 92.6kg, were believed to be bound for Sumatra, Indonesia.

He said during the raids, together with the state Narcotics Investigation Department, six syndicate members, including two Indonesians, aged between 25 and 51, were nabbed.

“In the first raid in Teluk Bahang, we seized all the syabu, which were kept inside a boat and arrested a man.

“In follow up raids in Bayan Lepas and Langkawi, Kedah, we arrested five others,” he added.

Mohmad said they also seized RM2.7 million cash, eight vehicles, jewelleries and a watch.

“All suspects will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“We believe the drugs are brought into the country via land and smuggled into Indonesia by sea,” he added.
