KUALA LUMPUR: Ampang PKR Youth chief Datuk Adam Rosly Abdullah has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment and fined RM30,000 for providing false statements and documents to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last year, during a probe into his wealth.

Sessions Court judge, Allaudeen Ismail made the decision after finding the defence had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Adam was charged last year with six counts of giving false statements and documents during the MACC's investigation over his purchase of a luxury bungalow in Ampang.

The charge comes under Section 32 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.

If the accused failed to pay the fine, he may face one year's jail for each of the charge.

The court, however, allowed for a stay in execution until the appeal has been completed.

He was ordered to pay a RM300,000 bail with one surety and surrender his passport.

Earlier, the accused's lawyer Datuk Sulaiman Ismail pleaded for a minor sentence, saying that his client had learnt his lesson.

"He has no intention of doing it and felt pressured to prepare and submit the documents to MACC.

"He now faces a financial problem because all his assets have been confiscated," he said.

A total of 11 prosecution witnesses and three defense witnesses were summoned to testify during the trial.

Under the first and second charge, Adam was alleged to have made false statements when his statement was recorded by MACC investigating officers.

This was related to his career as a businessman, income source, luxury car and bungalow in Kampung Melayu, Ampang, bought in cash, a RM200,000 loan from his mother-in-law and late grandmother, as well as a RM500,000 loan allegedly from a loan shark.

He was charged with committing the offense at the MACC headquarters, between 9am to 12.15pm on February 10, last year and between 9am and 2pm on February 22, the same year.
