KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court was told today that the five accused of murdering deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais were detected to be near the deceased’s house twice before he was reported missing on Sept 4 two years ago.

Inspector Ahmad Zikri Zalik, 30, from the Sentul district police headquarters, said the accused - A. K. Thinesh Kumar, S. Ravi Chandaran, M. Vishwanath, S. Nimalan, and G. Gunasekaran - were detected to be in the vicinity of Kevin’s house via a telecommunication tower on the roof of Kondominium Menara Duta 2 on Sept 3 and Sept 4, 2015.

“Their presence was detected through a telephone call made by Nimalan, Gunasekaran and Ravi Chandaran between Sept 3 and Sept 4 which was captured by the telecommunication tower at Taman Duta,” he said while testifying.

However, Ahmad Zikri, the 68th prosecution witness, said he could not ascertain the motive of the accused at that place.

He also told the court that the case was initially classified as a ‘missing person’ case.

He handed over the case to another investigating officer after it was classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The five are jointly charged with murdering Kevin between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, while the victim was on his way from Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

Pathologist Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 54, is charged with abetting the murder.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin prosecuted while the accused were represented by counsel M. Manoharan, V. Rajehgopal, and G. Sivakumar.

Hearing before Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah continues.
