MIRI: Corporate figure, Datuk Lee Chee Kiang and two others who were charged with abetment in the murder of PKR’s Bill Kayong were discharged and acquitted by the High Court here today.

The other two are pub owner, Lie Chang Loon, and Lee’s personal assistant, Chin Wui Chung, aged 37 and 50 respectively.

Judge Ravinthran N Paramaguru, when delivering his verdict, said the prosecution team had failed to establish a prima facie case against Lee, 45, Lie and Chin.

He, however, ordered car repossesor, Mohamad Fitri Pauzi, who was charged with with murdering Kayong or Mohd Hasbie Abdullah to enter defence.

“I find that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against Fitri and I hereby call the accused to enter his defence,” said Ravinthran.

He later fixed June 14 - 16 for Fitri, 30, to defend himself for the charge, which was made against him under Section 320 of the Penal Code for murder.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fuad Abdul Aziz prosecuted while counsel Ranbir Singh appeared for Fitri.

Lee was represented by counsel Orlando Chua while counsels Arthur Lee and David Kuok appeared for Lie and Chin respectively.

It was reported that Fitri was charged with murdering Kayong at a traffic light intersection near E-mart supermarket on Jalan Miri-Bintulu near here at 8.20am on June 21 last year. Lie, Chin and Lee were charged with abetting Fitri in the murder.

Kayong's friends and relatives, who were gathering outside the court room, were visibly unhappy with the latest turn of events.
