SANDAKAN: Two policemen were injured when car thieves rammed their vehicle in a bid to flee here yesterday.

In the 9.15am incident, officers in two patrol vehicles were in pursuit of two suspects fleeing in a stolen car, heading in the direction of Karamunting.

“On reaching the junction to Jalan Pelabuhan, the suspects made a U turn and rammed into (one of the) police cars.

“Sargent Fadzil Bakar received nine stitches for a cut at the back of his head, while Lance Corporal Ismail Shamsudin suffered a minor head injury,” District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said.

Both policemen have been discharged from hospital.

The two suspects, who were also injured in the collision, were arrested at the site.

The local men, aged 19 and 31, are still receiving treatment in hospital.

Mohd Azhar said the duo will be remanded for investigations for attempted murder, car theft, possession of syabu and drug abuse, and for causing a road accident.
