GEORGE TOWN: Professor Datuk Dr Jafri Malin Abdullah from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has been appointed as the advisor of the International Youth Neuroscience Association (IYNA).

Jafri is the director and founder of the USM Centre for neuroscience services and research, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.

“I am truly proud (with the appointment) as Neuroscience USM has received this recognition, more so from the younger generation in the world of neurosciences,” he said.

The association is based in the University of Maryland, Baltimore and Jafri will be the only advisor from outside the United States.

He is among the pioneers who introduced and developed the field of clinical and experimental neuroscience in Malaysia and in expanding it through the Malaysian Academy of Science.

According to Jafri, it was his contribution in establishing the first Neuroscience Club at the primary school level in Sekolah Kebangsaan Kubang Kerian 3 in Kelantan and at the secondary school level in Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra more than five years ago, as well as conducting various activities centred on neuroscience, which has made this appointment possible.
