KUALA LUMPUR: After an impressive first three rounds, Ben Leong had to face a play-off in the final round before emerging victorious in the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Maybank Players Championship at TPC Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Kiara, here today.

Leong who came into the final round with a nine-stroke lead, stumbled to a three-over 74 for a four-day total of 17-under 267 to share the lead with Gavin Kyle Green, who shot a 65 today.

In the one hole play-off, Green found the water and Leong parred it, which the latter nailed his fifth title of the season.

With the win, Leong pocketted RM47,150 and earned his slot at the Maybank Championship next year.

“I couldn’t find my rhythm today. But I’m happy it worked out okay in the end,” said Leong.

Green was gracious in defeat and said Leong “deserved to win here.”

“Ben played good golf over the first three days and while he hit a couple of stray shots coming down the home stretch, all I could do was try my best, and that’s what I did. I gave it my best shot but came up just short,” said Green.
