GEORGE TOWN: A section of Jalan Teluk Bahang - Jalan Balik Pulau, previously closed off due to a landslide, was finally reopened to motorists starting today.

State Public Works Department director Salleh Awang said light vehicles were allowed to use the resurfaced winding road from 7.30am onwards.

He said heavy vehicles however are only allowed to ply the stretch from noon onwards to allow remaining remedial works to be wrapped up.

"The federal Public Works Department had allocated RM700,000 for the repair works," he said.

The landslide happened following a recent downpour that triggered flash floods in Penang.

It affected two sections at the winding road - the hillslope and the road shoulder.
