IPOH: The Bersih 5 convoy, which launched its journey in the state today at the Sultan Abdul Aziz recreational park, received a lukewarm response from the public.

Most park visitors went about their exercise routines seemingly without paying any attention to the group and the speeches delivered by its leaders.

About 50 people in yellow t-shirts participated in the Bersih 5 roadshow, including Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and several opposition leaders, including Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming and Perak Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.

The convoy then moved to the Ipoh Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) at 9am, before proceeding to other locations and ending their run in Tanjung Malim.

The convoy is part of a nationwide campaign leading up to the Bersih 5 rally, to be held on Nov 19.

The rally has been banned in Johor following a decree by Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, prohibiting street demonstrations – making it the first state to ban such acts.

It was reported that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has confirmed that the group is not registered in accordance with the Societies Act.
