KUCHING: Police believe they have solved the murder of PKR Miri secretary and activist Bill Kayong, who was shot dead last month.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the task force formed to probe the killing also recovered the murder weapon.

The task force comprising Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers from Bukit Aman and Sarawak arrested six people, including a 22-year-old woman, from several locations in Miri during a two day operation, which ended on Friday.

“One of the suspects detained then led the police team to his house in Jalan Hai Nam in Miri about 5pm today.

“Police recovered a shotgun believed to be used in the murder, from the house.

“Our men also recovered ammunition from the same location,” Mazlan said in a statement today.

Mazlan said the task force is still identifying other suspects who are still at large.

“Eforts are still underway to gather all information pertaining to the case to prosecute the suspects,” he said.

Kayong, who was also political secretary to Miri member of parliament Dr Michael Teoh, was shot at close range at a traffic light junction in Jalan Kuala Baram near Lutong on June 21.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar earlier took to Twitter to congratulate the task force for their success in apprehending the suspects and recovering the murder weapon.
