MALACCA: Seven-year-old K. Durgasini who died on Saturday (June 18) due to diphtheria, had contracted the disease on June 10.

Malacca Health Department director Datuk Dr Ghazali Othman said the girl was only brought to the Malacca Hospital for treatment on June 17.

He said that by that time, the girl was in critical condition due to complications.

"The complications may be caused by the delay in seeking treatment," he said when met outside the state assembly sitting here today.

Dr Ghazali said that currently, Durgasini and her two siblings, Agateya and Karthirsan, have contracted the disease.

He said the siblings were recovering at the Malacca Hospital and are out of danger.
