KUALA LUMPUR: The seven men charged with the murder and abetment in the case of slain deputy public prosecutor Datuk Kevin Anthony Morais, claimed trial at the High Court today.

Six men – G. Gunasekaran, 43; R. Dinishwaran, 23; A. Thinesh Kumar, 22; M. Vishwanath, 25; S. Nimalan, 22; and S. Ravichandaran, 34, – were jointly charged with murdering Kevin, 55, between 7am and 8pm on September 4, 2015, while Kevin was on his way from Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

They face the mandatory death sentence if convicted.

Meanwhile, pathologist Col Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 52, was charged with abetting the murder of Kevin under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 302 of the same act.

On Jan 6, the Petaling Jaya magistrate's court transferred the case of the eighth suspect, mechanic A. Murugan, who is charged with abetting in the murder, to the Shah Alam High Court.

Murugan, 44, was charged under Section 109 of the penal Code for abetting in the murder, read together with Section 302 of the same act for murder.

He alleged committed the offence between 9.30am and 8pm on Sept 4, at Desa Mentari in Petaling Jaya,

When the case came up for case management before Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah, deputy public prosecutor Datuk Abdul Razak Musa requested a date for the case to be mentioned for document submission.

He also told the court that the prosecution will be making an application to Registration Division of the Shah Alam High Court to jointly try all the eight men together.

The prosecution is still waiting for the High Court to set a date on the Murugan's case.

The eight accused are represented by counsels Datuk N. Sivananthan, Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent, R.S.N Rayer, M. Manoharan, V. Rajagobal and R. Tirukumaran while Datuk Simon Sabapathy is holding a watching brief for Datuk Richard Morais.

The court has fixed Feb 25 for the case to be mentioned.
