KUALA LUMPUR: The body of a businessman was found hanging from an arch at the Federal Highway, here, about 4.30am today.

The victim, identified as K. Asok Kumar, 53, was found hanging at the Kota Darul Ehsan arch by a member of the public who contacted the police.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Sharul Othman Mansor said police's initial investigation revealed that there was no foul play involved in the incident.

"Police received a call at 4.32am from the public, who reported that a man was found hanging from the Kota Darul Ehsan arch.

"Following the information, police despatched investigators and Forensics Unit to the scene, which is located at the Petaling Jaya-bound side of the highway.

"Initial investigation revealed that there was no foul play involved," he said.

Sharul said the victim's body, which was hanging about 30m from the ground, was brought down by a team of firemen from the Pantai Fire and Rescue station.

He said the body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for post-mortem.

It is learnt that the victim, who was also known as Asok Old Klang Road, lived in a house just a few hundred metres away from the arch.

A man, who claimed to be Asok's relative, when met at the hospital, said the victim might have been depressed as his fertiliser business was not doing well.

Asok's friend, who only identified himself as Raja, 45, said the victim recently told him "don't regret if you don't see me anymore".

"We had been friends close to 25 years now. But, because I was busy with my business, I haven't seen him for about three months.

"On Wednesday evening, he called me and asked where I was. When I told him I was outstation, he said don’t regret if I don't see him around anymore. But at that time, it did not hit me.

"I planned to meet him today for a drink, but this morning, I received a call that he had died," he said.
