KUALA LUMPUR: The body of murdered deputy public prosecutor Kevin Anthony Morais was claimed by a family member today.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy confirmed that the body was taken from Kuala Lumpur hospital by the younger brother of the deceased, Datuk Richard Morais.

“The body was claimed at about 11.30am today but it was not known where the body was taken to,” he said when contacted.

Munusamy added the family did not proceed with the initial plan to conduct a second post-mortem on the body.

On Sep 23, family members and friends of Kevin turned up at the hospital but did not claim his remains as expected.

It was reported that the family wanted an independent confirmation on the probable cause of the victim’s death.

Kevin, who was previously seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), was last seen leaving his Menara Duta apartment for work in his grey Proton Perdana on Sept 4.

Police received a report on the disappearance of the deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers at 7pm the following day.

Closed-circuit television camera recordings later showed Kevin had been abducted in Jalan Dutamas after another vehicle rammed into his Perdana.

His body was discovered nearly two weeks later cemented in a barrel dumped in a partly-flooded area in USJ 1 in Subang Jaya.

Following the discovery of his body, seven men including an army pathologist were charged at the magistrate's court here over the abduction-cum-murder case.

Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 52, was charged with abetting in the murder of 55-year old Kevin at an area between Jalan Dutamas Raja here and Jalan USJ 1/6D, Subang Jaya, Selangor, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4.

The other six men, G. Gunasekaran, 47, R. Dinishwaran, 23, A. Thinesh Kumar, 22, M. Vishwanath, 25, S. Nimalan, 22, and S. Ravi Chandaran, 44, were charged with murdering the DPP at the same place, time and date.
