KENINGAU: More than 200,000 rubber smallholders nationwide have received a special assistance introduced by the government to ease their plight following the falling price of the commodity.

The Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) spent RM110.5 million on the payout, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, adding that 2,346 of the 221,000 recipients were from Sabah and received RM1.73 million.

“The distribution starts in the interior (areas) first, such as here,” he said after presenting the aid here yesterday. Bernama
