PETALING JAYA: Media Prima Berhad yesterday presented a RM315,000 donation to the Philippine ambassador to Malaysia, J. Eduardo Malaya, in aid of Typhoon Haiyan victims.

The fund was collected from the public via the Media Prima-NSTP Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Fund and channelled directly to the Philippines Red Cross.

Malaya said the effort was a big gesture of compassion from Malaysia in helping the Filipinos who were affected by the super typhoon that hit Tacloban, in central Philippines, in Nov 8 last year.

“The embassy is truly heartened with this effort and commitment by Malaysia and its government agencies. Ties between both countries have been tremendously strong, boosted further by our partnerships in trade and the signing of the Bangsamoro peace accord,” said Malaya during the presentation ceremony at Seri Pentas, Bandar Utama, here.

Media Prima Berhad’s Corporate Social Responsibility group adviser Datuk Ahmad A. Talib presented the cheque.

Malaya said the donation would ease medical costs and in rebuilding the affected region.

Present were National Disaster Management chairman Datuk Dr Bahari Abu Mansor, and New Straits Times Press group managing editor Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid.
