ALOR STAR: A Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign was launched at the Sultan Abdul Halim Information and Broadcasting Complex, here, recently in conjunction with the Merdeka Day celebrations.

The campaign was launched by state Information, Rural Development and Poverty Eradication committee chairman Datuk Tajuddin Abdullah.

He said it was important that all Malaysians fly the country’s flag as we celebrate 57 years of independence.

Malaysians, he added, should be grateful that we have managed to pull through challenges and with the MH370 and MH17 tragedies as well as the political situation, everyone should stick together and be grateful with what we have.

“We must fly the Malaysian flag proudly as a symbol of our love for the country which is also in keeping with this year’s theme of Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta.

“The flag of any country should be given the utmost respect and dignity. This is why at any international conference or sporting event, each country’s flag is raised. It is one of the most important ways to show patriotism.

“So, this Merdeka Day let’s unite and fly our flag proudly,” Tajuddin said.

At the event, hampers were given to the winners of the Kuiz Raya Kedah FM which took place on the first day of Hari Raya.

The winners were Norshazwani Ahmad, Norfal Zahari, Johari Izhar and Bukhari Mohd Saman had given correct answers to questions related to Merdeka and the country.

“I was up late that night helping my mum and it was at about 2am that I called in to answer the quiz question on the radio,” said Norshazwani.

“I usually wait for the quiz every year.”
