KUALA LUMPUR: The crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine on Thursday has resulted in several airlines diverting their flights from Ukrainian airspace.

News reports said KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a code-share partner of MAS, was among the first to announce that it would avoid flying over the territory since MH17 was believed to have been shot down.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China had, on Friday, confirmed that all Chinese airline companies had been warned to detour from Ukraine’s airspace.

Indian airlines, namely Air India and Jet Airways, have diverted flights from Ukraine’s conflict zone after MH17’s crash.

Reuters reports that Air France, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines were also avoiding Ukrainian airspace following the incident.

British Airways is doing the same, with the exception of its once-daily service between Heathrow and Kiev.

Lufthansa Airlines has decided to fly a wide detour around east Ukrainian airspace, with immediate effect. Bernama
