GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have completed investigations into the nudist camp here last May and are awaiting for further instructions from the Attorney-General's Office, state Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said.

He said Penang police would decide on the next course of action based on the AG's Office's instruction.

"We will submit the investigation papers today and will wait for the next course of action from the AG's Office," he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering at the Federal Reserve Unit headquarters in Jalan Padang Tembak here.

He, however, said police were still looking for six nudists involved in the event held on a beach in Teluk Kampi near Teluk Bahang on May 30.

He said the nudists sought comprised two Malaysians, a Myanmar couple and one each from Singapore and the Philippines.

“So far, we have taken statements from 29 people, including the participants of the camp and Penang National Park rangers," he said when asked on the progress of police investigations into the Penang Nude Sports Games 2014 at the Penang National Park.

A total of 11 police reports were lodged against the organiser of the nudist camp.

The police have so far detained and subsequently released nine people, including three women, over the incident, which had set tongues wagging.

Two of them, a local woman and a Singaporean, aged 57 and 54 respectively, were among the first to surrender to the police. The Singaporean man, Albert Yam, had also apologised to the state authorities and Penangites for participating in the event.

Police have classified the case as gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person and are investigating it under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a maximum five years’ jail, fine or both.
