Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the company conducting a detailed assessment on the matter and are currently in discussion with Malaysian authorities as to the impact of this development to its vehicles.

PERUSAHAAN Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) is conducting a detailed assessment on the impact of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.'s (Daihatsu) "procedural irregularities" report and a global suspension of its models, on vehicles here.

This comes after Daihatsu announced earlier today that it will halt shipments of all of its vehicles, after an investigation into a safety scandal found issues at 64 models, including almost two dozen sold under Toyota's brand.

Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad in a statement this evening said, the company is conducting a detailed assessment on the matter and currently in discussions with Malaysian authorities on the impact of "procedural irregularities" by Daihatsu on its vehicles.

"We sincerely apologise to our valued customers and the general public for any alarm this announcement may bring. Our intent is to reach out and assure our valued customers.

"We will share the outcome of this discussion with the public in due course," he added.

Perodua said its statement, is in response to a third-party committee's report, issued earlier today, on the "procedural irregularities" by Daihatsu when conducting safety tests on vehicles for various OEMs.

Perodua is owned by UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd and by extenson Daihatsu's local original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner.

To recap, on April 28, 2023, Daihatsu announced that local authorities flagged "procedural irregularities" when conducting safety tests on vehicles in Japan.

Daihatsu had followed up the announcement with the establishment of a third-party investigative committee consisting of lawyers and technical personnel.

According to Perodua in its statement, the third-party committee report, confirmed by Daihatsu, said: "these verifications and tests confirmed that all 174 irregularities pointed out by the third-party committee satisfied the standards set by laws and regulations".
