REPLACING the ageing but venerable Yamaha Lagenda 115Z with a new model is not an easy undertaking.

The Lagenda has its own fans and followers since its launch in 2000 to replace the Yamaha SRX, and has spawned five generations. It was officially launched by the late MotoGP legend Norifume Abe.

Such is the following that many have made their own versions of the Indonesian Jupiter Z and Thailand Spark RC as a way to differentiate themselves from the crowd.

Hong Leong Yamaha has finally taken the plunge and replaced the Lagenda with the EZ 115.

The new underbone is powered by a Euro 4-compliant 114cc single producing 9.9hp at 7,750 rpm and 9.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm.

The engine is in the air-cooled SOHC configuration and fuel injected.

The bodywork is all new and the opportunity has been taken to include a larger, halogen headlight and larger taillight. The fuel tank holds 3.9 litres and the underseat storage has been improved to 14 litres and will hold a jet-style helmet.

The new instrument panel includes an "Eco" light and a battery indicator. Accessing the underseat area is now easier via the ignition key.

Both electric and kick starters are standard equipment.

A single disc up front and drum rear are unchanged, as are the telescopic front forks and twin shock rear (adjustable for preload) setup.

The three colourways offered are Red, Cyan and Blue.

The EZ 115 is priced at RM5,598, excluding road tax, insurance or registration. It comes with a two-year or 20,000km warranty against manufacturing defects.
