Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) achieved another monumental milestone of producing five million motorcycles since its inception in 1979.
The company celebrated the event in a grand celebration at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at I-City, Shah Alam by launching the Yamaha 135LC (Fi) 5MRO Malaysian Edition. The 5MRO sports the colors of the Malaysian flag signifying the fact that it would only be produced in Malaysia.
Marketing & META general manager Tim Hoo, announced that only 5,000 units of this limited-edition motorcycle will be available in Malaysia.
They will come with a unique serial number beginning with 5,000,0001 to 5,005,000, a Yamaha Premium Basket, and a special certificate of authenticity.
Present at the event were Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan president and representative director Yoshihiro Hidaka, Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association chairman Datuk Wee Hong, President and CEO, Hong Leong Manufacturing Group president and chief operating officer Datuk Kwek Leng San, and Hong Leong Industries Berhad group managing director and HLYM managing director Datuk Dr. Jim Khor Mun Wei.
Jim pointed out that this was HLYM's fastest million-milestone ever reached as further proof that the brand is still one of the most preferred motorcycles in the country.
This is inline with HLYM aspirations to integrate Yamaha products into their customers' daily lives by creating a seamless experience that transitions into a comprehensive and inclusive Yamaha Digital Mobility Lifestyle.
He also added that this achievement is credit to HLYM's improved production capabilities, as the company focuses on increasing automation and implementing advanced systems in its processes.
The new model will be available at all authorized Yamaha dealers nationwide from mid-October 2022 onwards, at a retail price of RM9,198, excluding registration fees and insurance coverage.
Owners of the new model will also receive a disc lock and a special commemorative 5MRO Bomber Jacket as an exclusive gift with their purchase.
