THERE'S nothing more apt than to celebrate the 59th Malaysia Day with the letter "M", with 120 BMW M gathered to celebrate the country's unity as well as the brand.

Car owners, enthusiasts, fans and members of the media gathered at the Ingress Auto Damansara dealership as early as 6am to form the day's massive convoy.

Their destination was the newly opened LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur, where the cars would be on display until evening.

And what a showing it was, with the cars all lined up along the shopping mall's Gourmet Street, allowing the public to admire these performance machines.

"It is a true delight to witness this passion that Malaysians have for the brand. We hope that M, which is the most 'powerful' letter in the world, will continue to resonate with the diverse yet close-knit BMW M community in Malaysia.

"Let us not forget the unity of Malaysians as they come together to celebrate 59 years of national identity," said BMW Group Malaysia managing director Hans de Visser.

Participation was not merely for show as the German carmaker also rewarded the winners of the "search for the oldest BMW M models" of each series.

The six winners were Han Kim Leng (1981 BMW M535i - E12), Harris Mah Kar Keat (1988 BMW M3 - E30), Lim Shin Tom (1991 BMW M5), Gan Kian Yeh (2006 BMW M6 -E63), Tan Kai Che (2015 BMW M4), and Tee Yee Jiuh (2017 BMW M2).

"We are truly floored by the strong support of all the BMW M owners and fans in Malaysia as we commemorate 50 years of BMW M.

"Many have journeyed with us through all these years to honour five rich decades of the brand's pursuit for motorsport perfection.

"Their unwavering support has been pivotal to our success and the event is a true exemplification of the unity and pride shown by the Malaysian BMW M community," said de Visser.
