The 135LC FI doesn't only come with new aesthetics but a number of technical changes as well.

The 135LC has been a great success for Yamaha in this country with moped being a popular choice of mobility for many Malaysians.

For 2022, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor's (HLYM) 135LC FI doesn't only come with new aesthetics but a number of technical changes as well.

There's the FI in the name referring to fuel-injection.

Yes, the 135LC's engine is now fuel-injected, replacing the carburetor system in the previous model.

The 135cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine now makes 9.2kW (12.5hp) at 8,000rpm and 12.2Nm of torque at 6,000rpm.

It is also Euro4 compliant, and is mated to a four-speed transmission.

However, the manual hand-operated clutch version has been dropped for now with the automatic clutch only on offer.

According to HLYM, the reasoning behind this decision is that most of the buyers from the previous 135LC opted for the auto clutch.

They decided that it was better to reserve the manual clutch moped for the more powerful Y15ZR and offer the 135LC FI only with automatic clutch.

Another technical update is that the bike is now fitted with a rear disc brake along with redesigned swing arm which should offer better braking performance.

Physically it sports a new LED headlights and taillights, Pilot Light, a new digital speedometer with bigger graphics and a larger fuel tank of 4.6 litres.

The bike can be had in three new colours; Ruby Red, Crystal Cyan and Midnight Star.

Pricing is at RM7,798 excluding registration and insurance. New owners will receive a safety disc lock with their purchase.

Yamaha 135LC FI Special Edition

HLYM has also unveiled a special edition 135LC named, you guessed it, 135LC FI Special Edition (SE).

What's so special then? For starters it comes in an exclusive Desert Storm shade which is kind of matte gray, along with the Yamaha Premium Basket.

The SE can also be distinguished by its unique graphic design on its cover set and a three-dimensional "135LC" lettering on either sides.

Its Premium Basket features an open-and-close section to protect riders' belongings from getting wet on rainy days in addition to having a USB outlet.

According to HLYM, the basket is specially designed for Malaysian riders and will be available exclusively for the SE.

When asked, HLYM says they have no plans to offer the basket as an optional accessory for the regular 135LC at the moment.

So, if you are keen on the special Yamaha Premium Basket, you need to get yourself the SE then which will retail at RM8,198.

The new bike will be available at all authorised Yamaha dealers nationwide on Mar 14 onwards.
