"AIIIII! That's my parking laaaa, brader!" I curse silently to myself, but the sudden sounds of sheepish sniggering from the backseat passengers in my car tells me that I was probably not that silent.

Casting a dirty look from the rearview mirror, I turn my attention once again to the small road in front of me, revving my car to embark on another round of searching for parking space and scowling at everything in my wake.

I guess no one should ever be "fleeced" of a parking spot — at least not on a hungry stomach! But the thought of a Deepavali feast-with-a-twist waiting for me, like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow — slightly appeases my angst, and before I know it, I'm grinding to a halt at a vacant space, which had suddenly materialised with the departure of a silver MyVi.

This trip to Knowhere Bangsar, a contemporary restaurant located along a lively stretch of eateries facing Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, has become somewhat of an annual "pilgrimage" for me, I realise, as I recall traipsing into the cocoon of its semi-darkened inner sanctum, and always, without fail, delighting in the blanket of stars (lights) above me, twinkling seductively from the ceiling.

Last year, I'd found myself here to savour a delightful festive spread created by the team of talented chefs to celebrate and evoke patriotic nostalgia for Merdeka and Malaysia Day. Today, as my excited companions seated across me are deeply scrutinising the menu, I'm going to check out what culinary masterpiece is in store for this month of Deepavali — the festival of lights.

DEEPA-MEX IS THE THEME

 Pato Vattu Delight
Pato Vattu Delight

Themed "Karirito El Festejo" — gosh, even the words seem to slide out so seductively — this year's offering is a celebration of culinary diversity, an innovative spread that fuses the heart-warming traditions of Mexico and India in a spectacular feast for the senses.

A quick tap on the shoulder of a passing chef ("tanya sikit bang" — "a quick question, please") and I learn that this year's theme is thus due to Knowhere's customers' taste preference for the heavy and flavourful.

Thus, when you combine the flavour sensations that erupt from the spice-laden dishes of India with the bold and vibrant flavours of Mexico, you know it's not just about the food, but also about bringing two incredible cultures together to create a culinary adventure.

A huge fan of both Indian and Mexican food, the latter being the staple of my university years (and no, I didn't study in Guadalajara or Mexico City, for that matter!) for I just love the vibrant flavours and colourful presentations. Oh, I could eat enchiladas (similar to tacos but with more cheese and is spicier) all day!

But that's a story for another day. So, what's in store for that rumbling stomach at Knowhere Bangsar?

FEAST OF FLAVOURS

Here are the top picks.

Camaron Diabla — Succulent tiger prawns bathed in fiery masala devil sauce and served with a set of flaky, soft paratha, the perfect partner to scoop up the rich sauce with. Trust me, once you're done with the prawns and have run out of paratha, you'll be dipping your fingers in the sauce bowl to ensure no drip is left behind.

 Tandoor Tango

Tandoor Tango — Ah, back to something familiar. I love tandoori chicken and this is what I get, albeit a more atas version. The Tandoor Tango is marinated tandoori chicken resting gracefully on a vibrant bed of sauteed vegetables, and served with soft freshly baked chappati. Perfect dipped into the mint yoghurt sauce.

 Queso Moringa

Queso Moringa — Ohhh, this one could have made the top spot too if not for my propensity for tiger prawns! Anyway, veggie fans will delight in this creation, which uses fresh moringa leaves, prized for their vibrant green colour and robust nutrition. Inside a crispy fried tortilla, the greens are tucked lovingly between layers of gooey, melted cheese, creating a lovely burst of flavours. The zesty salsa on the side takes the flavours to another level of freshness.

 Golden Tamales Bliss

Golden Tamales Bliss — Visually so interesting. But what is it? Reminds me of lepat pisang! It's actually a delicate corn and dhal parcel, nestled in its own corn pericarp, and steamed to perfection. The earthly dhal compliments well the natural sweetness of the corn, which is paired with homemade turmeric masala sauce.

 Attuiraicci Mingle
Attuiraicci Mingle

Attuiraicci Mingle — Brought to the table with great flourish, this dish brings to mind a world where flavours dance in delightful harmony. Imagine a rich mutton masala and ratatouille, all expertly wrapped in a warm tortilla hug with a generous smattering of melted cheeses. A fusion masterpiece?

Pattu Vattu Delight — Who can say "no" to duck and cheese? Here's one for you then! This dish offers a burst of exciting textures and complex layers of taste with tender smoked duck that has been infused with the rich flavours of masala salsa, playfully sprinkled on top of crispy corn tortillas, and doused with creamy cheese sauce and gooey Monterey Jack!

The Deepavali menu will be available until Nov 30.
